Recoup lost funds from failed contractor

Please help me get my first house to a livable condition. I purchased my very first home on December 7, 2015, the American dream right? Something that should have been an exciting experience. In order to get an FHA loan, the house needed a lot of repairs and I had to find a contractor that was up to the job.  I hired a contractor who sayed all the right things to get the house up to par in order to meet a 203K FHA loan. We signed the paper work at the title company and he recieved a check for $15,142.50, half of the total project. He was able to get the funds as they were supposed to cover the materials. On January 20th, he closed his business but did not tell me. For 3 months we received an excuse after excuse why the project was delayed. For those 3 months I kept reaching out to God for answers. What should I do? All I could keep hearing was pray for him. So I did just that. I prayed for this man for 3 months straight. On March 31st, 2016, I received my answer.  He used the money to complete his remaining jobs and filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy leaving me high and dry. God had me praying for this man so I wouldnt hate him. What he did was not right by any means, but God was asking me to love my enemy so I would not have a harden heart. I just know that God is going to take care of it. Not the way I want it to be accomplished, but I know it's going to get done.

This was my first time working with a Texas based home contractor and l learned a lot of lessons. Always ensure that the contractor is bonded, limit funds, pay for material half and half in person, know the subcontractors, ensure they are licensed, and always trust your gut. Just to name a few.

I never thought I would be in this situation. It's something I would never wish on my worst enemy. We all have budgets unfornately, and I budgeted my new house and the remodel. I did not expect or budget for such as huge loss. I am doing as much as I can to continue the project with a new contractor and working with people from my local community to assist me in completing the house.

Any help would be much appreciated.
