Bringing us home to Rochester
I am currently a teacher with the Rochester City School District. I am overjoyed to be able to return to my passion and calling of being in the classroom. I briefly left the classroom during the COVID-19 Pandemic. In June of 2019 after a difficult pregnancy I gave birth to my now three year old little girl. I returned to the school I had been working at as soon as the school year began in August. Then in March 2020 of course the pandemic hit. At that time the school I had been working for decided I was not a good fit for the school. With the lock downs, closures and the availability of unemployment payments, I decided it would be better for my health and the health of my daughter to take whatever time I could off (both of us had suffered and struggled healthwise during the school year).
For the next year I took care of my health and my family while using the enhanced unemployment payments and stimulus payments to ensure our bills were taken care of. I looked for work outside the education field but did not find anything that suited me. In August of 2021 I began working part time as a waitress at a local restaurant close to my house in Alaska. Waitressing allowed me to still spend a significant amount of time with my little girl while I made enough money to take care of our bills. I continued to look for and apply for education positions that would allow me back in the classroom. As I read news reports of the teacher shortages across the nation my family began to consider moving to a new area so I could return to the classroom.
In August of 2022 an old friend of my husband reached out to me. He knew that I had been a teacher and had been educated in New York State, meaning it would be fairly easy for me to obtain a NYS teacher certification. Through him I was able to obtain an interview and then a job offer with the Rochester City School District. This allowed me back into the classroom and gave my family the chance to return home, closer to our extended family and close friends.

Before returning to Rochester to teach I was:
Waitressing August 2021 - August 2022
Unemployed May-2020 - August 2021
Teacher with the Kenai Peninsula School District June 2018-May 2020
Teacher with the Yupiit School District August 2016 - June 2018
Teacher with Coral Academy of Las Vegas August 2013 - June 2016
Teacher with Batiste Cultural Arts Academy New Orleans June 2012-October 2012
ENrolled in a teacher education program Keuka College, Keuka Lake, NY February 2009 - May 2012

Teaching has long been my dream and my passion and I am glad to be able to return to the city and state I have always dreamed of teaching in - to be able to make my mark on students and be a part of my greater community.
